Celebrating National Inspirational Role Models Month With Under My Umbrella

November is National Inspirational Role Models Month and National Gratitude Month.

In November, most of us turn our thoughts to turkey, football, and family. As you prepare to gather in gratitude, let me gently encourage you to offer up a generous portion of service to your holiday menu. It’s calorie-free and most definitely good for your heart! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ’“

What better way to celebrate the season of giving than by sharing our blessings with those less fortunate? One such mother-and-son trio has been doing just that – providing nourishment, comfort, and kindness to the unsheltered in DFW since 2022. Christina Cheng and her sons, Ishaan and Avinash Cheng-Patel, officially founded their nonprofit, Under My Umbrella, in 2022. In reality, this family’s service record is much longer.

Cultivating A Servant’s Heart

Of all the lessons we teach in our homeschool, being the change we wish to see in this world is by far the most paramount. Volunteering and service are integral to our family’s faith. Our family has had the privilege of meeting and celebrating the outreach efforts of numerous individuals, families, and programs local to DFW and across the globe.

On HCN’s sister website, It’s Only Homeschooling, we celebrated these outreach efforts on our former podcast, The Salt & Light SERVE Spotlight. Under My Umbrella was featured in our February 2023 episodes in honor of Random Acts of Kindness Day and Random Acts of Kindness Month.

Under My Umbrella

We believe that hard work, consistency, and mutual respect has formed the foundation for Under My Umbrella. We say that it is indeed hard work but it is most definitely โ€œheart work.โ€Christina Cheng, Co-founder, Under My Umbrella

The hard work of their โ€œheart workโ€ has helped not only nurture two young men but also inspired their supporters to help change the world, one random act of kindness at a time.
