Our Audience
The Homeschool Counseling Network is a free resource website dedicated to connecting homeschool families with academic advising, coaching, counseling, testing, therapy, treatment, and tutoring resources.
Our target audience is homeschooling families of all kinds. A large portion of our audience is Christian homeschooling families, but secular articles will not be excluded.
What We Are Looking For:
- Informative articles related to assessment, counseling, therapy, or mental health (written in layperson’s terms) include but are not limited to the following: anxiety, depression, coping with mental illness, etc.
- Educational articles related to learning disorders/disabilities, neurodiversity/neuroplasticity, assessment, and disabilities
- Therapy articles related to teaching and/or improving daily living skills and improving quality of life (i.e., occupational, physical, and speech therapy)
- Family Issues (discipline, parenting concerns, family issues/stressors, sibling issues)
- Homeschool encouragement
- Practical interventions, strategies, and exercises relevant to common homeschooling challenges (including but not limited to learning differences, work refusal, special needs, behavior issues, emotional regulation, executive functioning, twice-exceptional learners, motivation, etc)
- Teaching tips
- Managing work/life balance when you are working and homeschooling
- Self-care, relaxation, and managing stress (caregiver burnout, respite, rest)
- Advocacy -teaching parents how to advocate for themselves and their child(ren)
- Cultivating healthy relationships (boundaries, bullying, finding community, friendship or family concerns, loneliness)
- Coping with Change (seasons of homeschooling, empty nest, life transitions, grief/loss, divorce/remarriage)
- Homeschool tips (including teaching tips, routine tips, hacks, organization, and scheduling tips)
- Challenges you have faced in your homeschool and how you overcame them
- *Homeschool Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy Tips (*state if you are a licensed practitioner)
- Promotional articles about homeschool-related products, curriculum, classes, or courses will be considered on a limited basis.
What We Do Not Want:
- Professional articles that are written by professionals for professionals (no technical jargon please).
- Political opinions or views
- Lifestyle articles
- Meals plans and/or recipes
- Curriculum round-ups
FAQs:
Do I need to be a licensed professional (counselor, social worker, marriage and family therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, etc.) to contribute articles?
Not necessarily. As both a homeschool mom and a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have garnered wisdom from my extended parenting village, some of whom are in the helping field, but most are not.
The Homeschool Counseling Network welcomes articles from licensed clinicians, therapists, professional educators, academic coaches, and laypersons alike. However, we do require you to state whether or not you hold professional credentials (including listing your license information) if you are offering professional advice (including but not limited to the areas of professional counseling, mental health, psychology, psychoeducational assessment, and/or social work).
Scope of practice is not only important, it is the law. Coaching and therapy, while two very different animals both provide value and purpose. It is paramount to not misrepresent yourself to the community.
Do you pay for articles?
At this time, The Homeschool Counseling Network does not offer monetary compensation for guest posts. However, what we can offer instead is exposure.
Both It’s Only Homeschooling and The Homeschool Counseling Network work with Virtual Assistant Nakisha Blain, owner of Savvy VA Social Media Management. Nakisha’s social media presence is 400+K strong (and growing) across multiple platforms including Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) centered around homeschooling children of all grades and age levels.
Are you a nonprofit organization?
While The Homeschool Counseling Network has yet to pursue official non-profit status, we operate as a free resource to the homeschooling community at large (many of whom include single-income families). All operations of The Homeschooling Network’s website, blog, YouTube channel, social media pages, podcasts, digital content, and media are paid for through my family’s contributions. For now, The Homeschool Counseling Network operates under It’s Only Homeschooling, LLC (doing business as The Homeschool Counseling Network). As The Homeschool Counseling Network grows we may consider applying for official nonprofit status.
What is your mission?
The Homeschool Counseling Network’s mission is to connect homeschooling families with free resources in the areas of academic advising, counseling, testing, therapy, and tutoring to inspire, inform, and improve lives.
We accomplish our mission through writing, creating digital content, public speaking engagements (podcast appearances, educational conferences, continuing education workshops), and planning and implementing our own online and in-person events.
What are your article formatting guidelines?
If your article idea is selected to be featured on our blog, we will email you article formatting guidelines.
Can I submit more than one article idea?
Absolutely! However, we cannot guarantee that all ideas will be selected.
